Kato Rodini, (Greek: Κάτω Ροδινή) is a settlement in the municipal unit of Rio, Achaea, Greece. As of 2001, it had a population of 164 for the settlement. Located between the Gulf of Corinth and the GR-8 (Athens - Corinth - Patras).

Location and transportation

Kato Rodini is located 15 km east from Patras, 1 km from the old GR-8/E65 (Athens - Corinth - Patras), and the GR-5 (E55) with the GR-48 (E65) interchange, east from the centre of Rio, and about 20 km west of Aigio. Its nearest interchange is in Rio.

Geography and history

Kato Rodini was ruled until by the Ottomans until the Greek War of Independence of 1821. It adopted its current name in the 20th century.

After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt and emigration occurred at a higher rate until 1981 through to 1991, it became one of the few villages in mountainous Achaia to regain is population. Dessino became connected with asphalt in the 2000s. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. In 1997, the ex-community (now a village and a municipal district) joined to become the newly formed municipality of Rio.

Today, it is a village with a few inhabitants, it is populated during the summer months. The population depends on olive and cattle productions.
